Janny HuangJanny Huang

Janny X. Huang was born in Nanjing, China. She has worked as a professional painter since graduating from the Jiangsu Academy of Traditional Chinese Painting in 1982. She is most noted for her skilled brushwork in figure paintings and in "bird and flower" subjects. Among her figure paintings, she has depicted many minority groups that she has visited in China. Recently, her artwork has aimed to evoke a harmonious sense of nature. With each new piece, she attempts to achieve a sense of poetry, peace, and refinement.

Janny moved from China to the US in 1989. From 1992 to 2015 she and her husband, sculptor Joseph Yan, ran the Joseph Fine Art School in San Francisco, California. In addition to teaching at Joseph & Janny's Art Studio, Janny exhibits her work both locally and internationally. Her work can be found in both private and public collections.

Joseph began carving jade in China in 1972 when he was 16 years old. He studied at the Nanjing Art Institute in China from 1978 to 1982, then taught in that same college for the next five years. Joseph moved to San Francisco in 1987, where he studied contemporary art for three years at the Academy of Art University. In 1992 he founded the Joseph Fine Art School with his wife, painter Janny Huang. He continues as a teacher at Joseph & Janny's Art Studio in Daly City, California.

While in China, Joseph carved in jade, wood, and stone and worked in ceramic sculpture. After he moved to the United States, he began to use traditional Chinese landscape techniques to portray American natural landscapes.

In addition to teaching art, Joseph does framing, chop carving, and antique repair.
