Student's Original Artwork to Hang in US CapitolCongratulations to our prize-winning JFA student Marisa Ling, who won the 2015 Congressional Art Competition for District 12! Her original work Surgery will hang in the US Capitol Building for one year. She is pictured here with District 12 Representative, and Minority Leader of the House, Nancy Pelosi at the awards ceremony at the Asian Art Museum on March 5, 2015. As the winner, Marisa also receives two round trip tickets to Washington DC, is entered in a grand prize scholarship, and is invited to attend a gala reception for the winners from all over the country. Marisa previously won the Gold Key Award at the 2011 Alliance for Young Artists and Writers art contest with her work Road Less Traveled.
ExhibitionsWhen we had our school on Clement Street in San Francisco, we were able to mount annual exhibitions of our students' work. We continue to encourage students to show their talent and to share their work with their friends and family and to practice discussing their art with others. We are now exploring other ways to share work and ideas about the art we make and enjoy.
Past ExhibitionsStudents produced an impressive collection of paintings and other artwork in 2014. See pictures taken at the opening reception on New Year's Day, 2014. Our 2012 exhibition was hung at Ruth's Table Gallery at 580 Capp Street. The gallery carries on the legendary work of Ruth Asawa. The show was called "Painting Chinese" and featured on their web site. They featured examples of brush painting, calligraphy, cartoons, ceramics and sketches by twenty five of our students as well as works by Janny Huang and Joseph Yan. Our 2011 exhibition was also enthusiastically received. You can see photos from the opening day party on January 2, 2011 here.
